Asphalt is made from 95% aggregate (stones, sand, and gravel) and held together by asphalt cement. The asphalt cement is heated, combined and mixed with the aggregate at a hot mix asphalt facility. The hot mix asphalt (AC) is then loaded into trucks for transport to the paving site to be installed.
Asphalt is the sustainable material for building road pavements. It's smooth, vehicles consume less fuel and produce lower emissions also saving wear and tear on the vehicles; it's quiet, so expensive noise walls don't need to be constructed on the interstate roads; it's safe, providing excellent gripping power.
94% of U.S. roads are paved with Asphalt. 65% of those being interstate roads.
Did you know? Asphalt is 100% recyclable and is actually the most recycled material in the U.S!! with over 95 million tons recycled each year! Saving taxes payer about $300 million a year!
